The company was formed in 2001 to reflect the growing role of MEBC in developing business opportunities within the environmental business sector. The Club formed in 1991, is a highly active network of more than 300 individuals and organisations from both the corporate and public sectors of the central region of the UK. Providing an information and experience exchange network and signposting service MEBC is committed to promoting the values of sustainable development and the benefits to be gained when they are practically deployed.

MEBC is the regional branch of the Business Council for Sustainable Development - United Kingdom (BCSD-UK, see www.bcsd-uk.co.uk), the UK’s only affiliated branch of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (see www.wbcsd.org).

A subsidiary company, MEBC Projects Limited, provides a corporate vehicle for the undertaking of projects, as much as possible involving members.

 Sustainable Construction

The MEBC is a member of the SHAP (Social Housing Action Partnership) Regional Steering Group and the West Midlands Retrofit Steering Group which is a consortium of Housing Associations, LEPS, Local Authorities and target support groups such as the Energy Savings Trust. MEBC Director, Pat Laughlin, is chairing a Task & Finish Group which has the objective of setting the framework for a supply chain development programme to respond to the Green Deal.
